Darlington County deputies fatally shoot woman who had a knife
DARLINGTON, S.C. – Darlington County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a woman late Sunday night when she met the deputies with a knife.
The incident occurred at a residence on Edna Street, where deputies were dispatched “due to an individual actively inflicting bodily harm,” Darlington County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Robby Kilgo wrote in a news release.
As deputies attempted to enter the residence, the individual met them with a large serrated knife, according to the release.
“Deputies did shoot the individual,” Kilgo wrote.
The person was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Darlington County Sheriff Tony Chavis has asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. SLED spokesman Thom Berry says the armed person was a woman, and he says that she has died.
Two officers were involved, Berry said. He said the woman was white, as are the officers.
Their names have not been released.
