NLCS Game 5is tonight...A day of rest for AL teams... Raiders take on KC tonight

CHICAGO (AP) — Game 5 of the NLCS gets underway shortly at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. Jose Quintana is scheduled to pitch for the Cubs against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers hold a 3-1 lead in the series. The Cubs avoided a sweep last night, holding off the Dodgers 3-2. Chicago closer Wade Davis held on for a six-out save in Game 4, but that means the Cubs will have to look elsewhere for the late innings in Game 5.

HOUSTON (AP) — Manager Joe Girardi says the New York Yankees would have preferred not having a day off today after winning three straight home games to take a 3-2 lead in the AL Championship Series. But Astros manager A.J. Hinch has no sympathy. His team knows the feeling. The Astros won the first two ALCS games at home last week before an off day stopped their momentum. Game 6 is Friday night in Houston. Neither team held a formal workout today.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Raiders take on the Kansas City Chiefs tonight in Oakland. Derek Carr and the Raiders have lost four straight games for the first time in three years. And the Chiefs carry their 5-1 record into the game after a 19-13 loss to Pittsburgh. There is some good news for Oakland. Linebacker NaVorro Bowman is active for his debut with the Raiders just three days after signing with the team. was released last Friday by San Francisco.

HOUSTON (AP) — No. 25 Memphis is looking for more after earning its first Top 25 ranking since 2015. The Tigers are getting get their first chance to do that when they visit Houston tonight in a key divisional showdown. The last time Memphis was ranked, the Cougars came from behind to beat the Tigers, 35-34, in Houston on Nov. 14, 2015. Last year, Memphis defeated the Cougars, 48-44, in the regular-season finale.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — No. 13 Notre Dame will be without senior inside linebacker Greer Martini on Saturday night when it faces No. 11 Southern California. Martini has a torn meniscus, and had arthroscopic surgery last week. He has started five games for the Irish and has 39 tackles, an interception and two forced fumbles. Martini’s replacement is junior Te’von Coney.
