LOCAL ROUNDUP: Holy Redeemer Routs Lady Cougars In WVC Opener

Four players scored in double figures as Holy Redeemer cruised past visiting Hazleton Area 82-49 in the Wyoming Valley Conference girls’ basketball opener for both teams on Wednesday night  in Wilkes-Barre.

Cameron Marcinkowski led the Royals, the defending WVC Division 2 champion, with 19 points. Sam Yencha finished with 14 and Julia Andrejko and Jordan Cicon chipped in 12 apiece.

At Wyoming Area, the Warriors’ Cassidy Orzel and Crestwood’s Helena Jardine scored 24 points each, but it was Jardine and the Comets who came away with the narrow win.

Aleah Kranson scored 15 for Wyoming Area, while Riley Magin had 10 for the victors.

The close game featured 37 free throws attempts, but only 17 were made.

At Tunkhannock, Lauren Charlton scored a game-high 12 points and led Dallas to a win.

Gianna Centrella scored nine points for Dallas, which didn’t make any 3-pointers, but made up for that with some great free throw shooting. Dallas shot 8 of 9 at the foul line.

Hailey Long scored 10 points for Tunkhannock.

At Nanticoke Area, the Trojannettes used a balanced scoring effort to defeat the Crusaders.

Lauren Casey had a game-high 13 points, and Bella Czeck followed closely behind with 12 points for the winners.

Ariana Brittingham and Abby Cicon each had six points for Coughlin.

In Wilkes-Barre, Bella Skaff netted 19 points to lead unbeaten Meyers to a win in its WVC opener. Allycia Harris and Da’Nayia Ballard and 14 and 13, respectively, for the Lady Mohawks (5-0, 1-0).

For MMI, Kim Amentler scored a career-high 14 points, Irene Altmiller had seven and Julie Amentler tossed in four.
