Yellow Jackets win first game, fall in championship of Yellow Jacket tourney
ALLENDALE, Ill. -- Allendale basketball hosted its annual Yellow Jacket Tournament on Monday, hosting New Hebron and West Salem in the round robin tournament for the championship. Allendale defeated West Salem 58-37 in the first game, but fell to New Hebron 39-27 in the championship game on Monday night.
The first game against West Salem was all Allendale out of the gate. The Yellow Jackets quickly scored early and often, jumping to a 16-9 lead at the end of the first. Allendale’s JD Bowser scored nine points in the first quarter. One on an offensive rebound and putback, a theme in this game, as West Salem had trouble containing Bowser’s length.
They continued to pull away in the second quarter, increasing the margin to as high as 16, before taking a 30-14 lead to the break.
In the third the Yellow Jackets quickly increased the lead to 20, but West Salem showed some fight early on, narrowing it to a 15 point lead, 36-21 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets continued to score with ease and took a 47-28 to the end of the quarter.
With the game handily won, Allendale took out Kollin Kelsey and Bowser with around three minutes left, maintaining a 21 point lead. Kelsey scored a team-high 19 points in the game and Bowser scored 17. Joining the pair in double digits was Matt Jackson with 11 points. Trent Casburn added four, Sam Medler

had three points and Wyatt Gher and Roland Foster each had two points. West Salem’s Maddix Stuessel scored 25 points in the loss.
The final game of the night pitted the hosting Yellow Jackets against New Hebron. Allendale trailed much of the game, but showed resiliency throughout.
Trailing New Hebron by a narrow 17-15 lead at halftime, Allendale continued to fight. They outscored New Hebron 12-10 in the third quarter to tie the game at 27-27 entering the fourth. Unfortunately for Allendale, the fourth quarter was all New Hebron.
New Hebron outscored the Yellow Jackets 12-0 in the fourth to escape with a 39-27 victory over the hosting Yellow Jackets.
Bowser continued his excellent play on the night, scoring 15 points in the loss. Casburn added nine points and Kelsey scored three points for Allendale.
As they went .500 in the tournament, Allendale moves to 3-3 on the young season.
