ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ A strong earthquake shook the seabed off the western Peloponnese today, but there were no reports of injuries or damages.

The undersea quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9, occurred at 4:08 a.m. (9 p.m. Wednesday EDT) with an epicenter 156 miles southwest of the capital, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said.

On Sept. 7, a magnitude 5.8 quake centered near Athens claimed 143 lives and left about 100,000 people homeless.
