HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the discovery of seven dead pit bulls dumped in garbage bags on Long Island.

The Nassau SPCA tells PIX11 the dogs were discovered on Wednesday in Hempstead at a New York State Department of Transportation sump.

There were four females, two males and a 3-month-old puppy.

The Nassau SPCA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The public is urged to call the Animal Cruelty Stoppers Hotline at 516-THE-SPCA.
