Police shoot suspect after vehicle pursuit
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a trooper has shot a male suspect after a vehicle pursuit.
News outlets report it happened early Friday in Frankfort and left a state trooper injured and the suspect wounded.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Charles Loudermilk said the situation began when Frankfort Police attempted to make a traffic stop around 3 a.m. and the driver fled. State police joined the pursuit, which ended on U.S. 127 near Interstate 64.
Sheriff Pat Melton said an officer shot the suspect, who was taken to the hospital. Police said the man is undergoing surgery. A trooper also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. Neither the suspect nor the trooper was identified.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says U.S. 127 is shut down while a critical response team examines the scene.
