Seton Hall 74, Georgetown 58
STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ Seton Hall freshman Danielle Golay scored 18 points to push the Pirates past a fast-charging Georgetown 74-58 on Saturday in the first round of the Big East tournament.
The 10th-seeded Hoyas (12-15) used a strong transition game and the inside scoring of junior Ebiho Ahonkhai to trade leads with Seton Hall in the first half. Ahonkhai, the only Hoya in double figures, had a game-high 24 points.
Freshman Danielle Davis came off the bench for the seventh-seeded Pirates and hit a 15-foot jumper with 3:04 left in the first half to put Seton Hall up for good 28-27.
Georgetown got no closer than nine points in the second half. Seton Hall (15-12) ran its lead as high as 18 points three times in the final four minutes. Sophomore Sandy Mitchell and freshman Christine Koren combined for an 8-0 Seton Hall run with 6:55 left in the game.
Seton Hall outrebounded the Hoyas 48-41, getting a game-high 12 boards from junior Dana Wynne. She finished with 15 points. Mitchell added 17 points for Seton Hall.
Georgetown was only 1-11 from three-point range. The Pirates shot 4-for-9. Koren and Mitchell each had a pair of three-pointers.
The Pirates play second-seeded Providence on Sunday.
