Dog killed in South Torrington

August 1, 2018

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — A dog was shot in south Torrington July 26 after attacking poultry, according to the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office.

Interim Sheriff Jeremy Wardell said the dog, owned by Violet Freouf, had killed six chickens belonging to Albert Lira. Lira had attempted to shoo the dog away from his property, but in the end shot the dog. The sheriff’s office was alerted to the shooting at 4:30 p.m.

Because the dog had attacked Lira’s chickens, Wardell said the shooting was legal.

“The law is protective of producers,” he said. “With it being outside the city limits, owners of animals and livestock and poultry can take steps to protect their livelihood in the case of a loose dog attacking and killing things.”
