National Weather Service issues tornado warning for Ashtabula County, western Pennsylvania

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The National Weather Service in Cleveland on Tuesday issued a tornado warning in Ashtabula County until 3:15 p.m. 

The area includes the cities of Ashtabula, Geneva, Geneva-on-the-Lake and Edgewood. Radar shows the threat of a tornado and potential quarter-sized hail.

The warning came just a few minutes after NWS issused a tornado warning for cities in northwest Pennsylvania including Conneautville, Saegertown, Cambridge Springs, Lincolnville and Townville. That warning is set to expire at 3 p.m.

The National Weather Service said a trained tornado spotter reported a tornado struck a nursing home about 5 miles east of Conneautville, in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. 

The tornado warning in Ashtabula County covers an area with a population of more than 50,000. 

Thunderstorms with heavy rain have been hanging over Lake Erie and traveling east since Tuesday morning.
