NY Assembly to review rent rules as NYC laws face renewal
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Lawmakers in the Democrat-led New York state Assembly have held another hearing on rent regulations as New York City’s rent rules come up for renewal.
The Assembly’s Housing Committee met Thursday in Albany for the second of three hearings on laws designed to protect tenants from sharp rental increases or unscrupulous landlords.
New York City’s rent regulations must periodically be renewed by lawmakers. The law is set to expire again this year, and Democratic lawmakers say they want to consider strengthening the rules — or even extending some protections statewide.
A third hearing is set for Friday in Rochester.
The Senate, meanwhile, has announced another hearing on rent regulations for May 16 in Brooklyn.
