Acton Man, Allegedly Stabbed by Son, Dies

October 10, 2018

ACTON -- The 57-year-old Acton man stabbed by his son last week in an attack that also injured two others has died due to the injuries he sustained, authorities announced Tuesday night.

John DiCristina was stabbed with a knife multiple times in the head and the neck by 25-year-old Benjamin DiCristina, also of Acton, inside the family’s home on Haynes Court on Thursday night.

The alleged attack on his father came after the 25-year-old allegedly strangled and stabbed a 28-year-old woman he knows, and cut his mother with knife, according to a Middlesex District Attorney’s Office press release.

Acton police responded to the home at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and found Benjamin DiCristina in the shower of the residence. He was immediately taken into custody.

His mother was treated and released at a local hospital. The 28-year-old victim remains hospitalized with serious injuries, according to Meghan Kelly, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said shortly after the attack that John DiCristina was not expected to survive.

Benjamin DiCristina was arraigned on Friday in Concord District Court on two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, and strangulation. He is currently being held without bail.

The 25-year-old has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and is slated to reappear in court for a status hearing Oct. 25.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the information sent out by email Tuesday night by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Acton police.

Benjamin DiCristina could face additional charges, authorities say.
