TIRANA, Albania (AP)_ An explosion rocked the home of a parliamentary deputy Wednesday, killing his niece and injuring three other family members, government officials said.

The blast shook the home of Azgan Haklaj of the Democratic Party at 2 a.m., said Florjan Serjani of the Interior Ministry. The explosion killed Haklaj's 26-year-old niece, Shote.

The explosion occurred in Bajram Curri, about 62 miles north of Tirana.

Bajram Curri is the hometown of Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, and has often been the site of assassinations, clashes and explosions between his supporters and detractors.

Edi Paloka of the Democratic Party said the attack came after Haklaj turned down an invitation to meet with Prime Minister Ilir Meta.

Government officials were not immediately available for comment.
