Fatal OD is second death in 3 days at Boyd detention center
ASHLAND - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a number of overdoses overnight at the Boyd County Detention Center.
One of those overdoses resulted in death.
On Sunday morning, Dec. 2, the Boyd County Coroner’s Office responded to King’s Daughters Medical Center for a report of a male deceased in the Emergency Department.
During the investigation it was determined that multiple individuals had overdosed at the Boyd County Detention Center. One person has been declared deceased from what officials believe to be a overdose of Fentanyl. One other inmate was treated and released from the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Charles Shawn Finley 36, of Ashland. Finley was transported to Frankfort for an autopsy Sunday morning. Once toxicology testing is complete, the coroner’s office will issue a cause of death. This is an ongoing investigation with the Kentucky State Police.
This is the second death that has happened at the Boyd County Detention Center in the past few days. On Thursday, Nov. 29, Michael L. Moore, 40, was found dead at the jail. He had been incarcerated for public intoxication.
Troopers with the Kentucky State Police said in a report about Moore’s death that an autopsy performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort could not rule out criminal activity. The case remains under investigation by KSP and the Boyd County Coroner’s Office.
