Power 70, Rage 68

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Elaine Powell completed a 17-point night with a driving layup Wednesday night to give the Portland Power a 70-68 victory over the Philadelphia Rage in the ABL.

Portland trailed 68-63 with 2:45 left, but a rebound basket and two free throws by Natalie Williams closed the gap to 68-67. With 45.7 seconds remaining, Philadelphia’s Teresa Edwards missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Powell then made the basket that gave Portland a 69-68 lead.

Delisha Milton added one of two free throws with 8.4 seconds left as Portland ended Philadelphia’s three-game winning streak.

Williams scored 19 points to lead the Power (5-4).

Edwards, who also scored 19, had 11 at halftime and four during a 12-0 Philadelphia run to open the fourth quarter. Her driving layup with 5:26 left gave the Rage a 62-56 margin.

Milton added 13 points and Katy Steding 11.

Cass Bauer had 10 first-half points and finished with 14 for the Rage (8-3).

Portland started to pull away late in the third, leading 53-46, but Chasity Melvin had two free throws to pull the Rage to 53-50 at the end of the period.
