No. 19 Nebraska 78, Kent 72
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Nicole Kubik scored 25 points as No. 19 Nebraska beat Kent 78-72 Monday night in the first round of the Seelbach Tournament.
The Huskers (11-1) will play Louisville in the championship game on Tuesday. The Lady Cardinals defeated Eastern Kentucky 87-49 in the other first-round game.
Nebraska took a 27-14 lead with 7:32 remaining in the first half on a basket by Naciska Gilmore. But Kent (6-4) used a 17-0 run to take a 31-27 lead with 2:27 left, and held a 40-33 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Kent stretched its lead to 45-35 on Julie Studer’s jumper with 18:13 remaining. Nebraska responded with an 11-0 run over the next 2:27 to take a one-point lead on Charlie Rogers’ layup.
The teams traded baskets for most of the rest of the half, with the Huskers finally taking the lead for good on a driving layup by Rogers with 3:50 left to make the score 68-66.
Rogers and Brooke Schwartz each scored 10 points for Nebraska.
Dawn Zerman led Kent with 19 points. Studer added 18, Jamie Rubis 16 and Carrie Nance 10.
