Somerset woman killed in accident
A Somerset woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon near the Shaffer Crossroads in Brothersvalley Township.
Brittany R. Brady, 33, was traveling on the Garrett Shortcut Road, just south of East Mud Pike Road, at 3:59 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a left-hand turn and her Jeep traveled off the right side of the roadway, according to state police.
Brady overcorrected, police said, causing the vehicle to slide sideways. The Jeep’s tire dug into the grass, and the vehicle overturned two times before coming to rest on its roof. Brady, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected through the driver’s side window, according to police.
She suffered a major head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller at 5:10 p.m.
Two passengers, an 11-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, both from Somerset, suffered suspected minor injuries and were transported to Conemaugh hospital for evaluation, according to police. Both were wearing seat belts.
The accident closed the roadway for about two hours, according to Somerset County Control. The Berlin fire department and Berlin and Somerset ambulance services also responded.
