Area football stars flock to West Virginia State

HUNTINGTON - West Virginia State University’s football program (NCAA Division II) recruits heavily in the Tri-State. Following is a look at some of the Yellow Jackets last season.

Zach Pate, Hurricane H.S.: The 5-foot-6, 169-pound WVSU red-shirt sophomore wide receiver caught 21 passes for 276 yards last season. Pate also returned nine punts for 36 yards, rushed once for seven yards and made one tackle.

Ethan Perry, Wayne H.S.: WVSU red-shirted Perry, a 6-foot-2, 299-pound true freshman, in 2017.

Luke Presley, Tolsia H.S.: A 5-foot-7, 200-pound freshman running back, Presley was red-shirted last season with the Yellow Jackets.

Andrew Roach, Point Pleasant H.S.: A 5-foot-11, 215-pound freshman linebacker, Roach was red-shirted last season.

Corey Romans, Huntington H.S.: Romans appeared in four WVSU games last season. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound sophomore tight end caught two passes for 45 yards.

Zach Wamsley, Wahama H.S.: A 6-foot, 200-pound freshman linebacker, Wamsley was red-shirted last season with the Yellow Jackets.
