DETROIT (AP) _ Montreal Expos pitcher Masato Yoshii left Tuesday’s game with the Detroit Tigers after being hit below the right ear with a line drive.

With one out in the fourth, Randall Simon hit a drive up the middle that deflected off the top of Yoshii’s right shoulder and then hit him below the right ear. He was knocked down, and stayed down while Simon made it to first.

Yoshii was attended to by manager Frank Robinson and members of the Montreal training staff before leaving the field under his own power.

Joey Eischen replaced Yoshii with Montreal leading 1-0.
