Pedestrian struck and killed on East Pettit
Lights from emergency vehicles lit up a road along Southgate Plaza Sunday as police investigated how a pedestrian was struck and killed.
Police responded to East Pettit Avenue near Calhoun Street about 8 p.m. for a call that a man was lying on the ground. En route, police were told a pedestrian had been hit, spokesman Mark Bieker said, and efforts to revive the unresponsive man were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
People gathered near the police tape, which blocked traffic from a portion of Pettit lined with houses and businesses, including fast food restaurants and a gas station.
It was too early Sunday night to know whether there will be charges involved, Bieker said. He noted the driver of the vehicle was at the scene and would be interviewed.
Circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately known, Bieker said.
The crash remains under investigation.
