Police ID victims of Massachusetts Turnpike crash
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) — The victims of a fatal crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Framingham this week have been identified as Connecticut residents.
Police say 20-year-old William Barnett and 19-year-old Alyssa Grenier, both of Stafford Springs, Conn., died when their minivan was struck by a tractor-trailer hauling lumber just after 5 a.m. Wednesday on the eastbound side of the highway.
Barnett, the driver, and Grenier, were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was hospitalized with injuries not considered life threatening.
The crash remains under investigation, but the minivan spun out on a road made slick by a rain-sleet mix and police think weather was a factor.
The crash forced lane closures on both sides of the highway and rush-hour traffic backups of up to 18 miles.
