Man reportedly punched cop

A man arrested on an apprehension order early Tuesday morning allegedly punched an officer in the face during his arrest.

Joseph Michael Rodriguez, 45, who police said has no address, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault and obstructing the legal process, according to Rochester Police Capt. Casey Moilanen. Rodriguez was also arrested on an apprehension order.

Police were called to the 600 block of Seventh Avenue Southeast around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday by a man and a woman who wanted Rodriguez moved from their residence, Moilanen said.

Police arrived and told Rodriguez to leave, which he did without incident. A short time later, officers learned there was an apprehension order for Rodriguez and went to arrest him when Rodriguez tried to flee, Moilanen said.

Rodriguez allegedly punched an officer in the face. Police tased Rodriguez and then were able to arrest him, Moilanen said.

Reports from police did not indicate if the officer was injured.
