Beaver Dam teen does well at state tournament
A Beaver Dam High School junior received two plaques at the state ice fishing tournament in La Crosse over the weekend.
Beaver Dam High School Ice Fishing team assistant head coach Amanda Brazee said Bryon Strelow earned a plaque for biggest perch at 12 3/4 inches and biggest bluegill at 9 1/2 inches.
The team, which is not officially affiliated with the high school, attended the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association tournament Saturday wiht eight members.
The team formed at the end of last year’s season.
“As a team it was an overall great experience,” Brazee said. “All together there were 92 registered teams and 67 teams weighed in. Beaver Dam scored in the middle of the pack with 143.75 inches.”
The Beaver Dam team, which form last year, has 17 members, with one of the teens home schooled and the others atteninding Beaver Dam High School.
“This was our first year in tournaments,” Brazee said. “It was a learning experience for the all of the students and coaches, and we all can’t wait till next year.”
