Knights hold on to top Nevada squad in Yuma
The Lake Havasu boys basketball team got off to a rough start in its first game of the Southwest Rotary Classic Tournament in Yuma on Thursday but was able to pull off a 68-61 win over Lincoln County High out of Panaca, Nevada.
“It wasn’t a very good performance by us but we got the W and that’s what is important,” Lake Havasu coach Ted Darnell said. “Our defense wasn’t working, our offense was stagnant and missing shots.
“The kids just have to get it into their mind that they are going to have to play hard and do the things they are coached to do. Hopefully, we play better (today) because we are playing a lot better team. So they are going to have to play well or else it is going to be a long night.”
After the cold start, the Knights started to pull away from the Lynx after the game went back-and-forth from the start. However, Havasu let Lincoln County back in the game before holding on to win it.
The Knights will play Tucson High today at 11:30 a.m. after the Badgers lost 76-71 to Desert Oasis out of Las Vegas.
If Havasu wins, it will play the winner of Yuma Gila Ridge-California Holtville at 8 p.m. If the Knights lose, they will play the loser of the same game at 7:30 p.m.
