2 Cops, 2 Civilians Hurt in Shooting
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ Two police officers were shot and wounded in their patrol car during an apparent ambush in a residential neighborhood, authorities said.
Two bystanders, including a pregnant woman, also were wounded by the gunfire late Saturday.
``There was no warning. One or more suspects opened fire on them, striking them as they sat in their police car,″ Sgt. Steve Filippini said.
One officer was listed in critical condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center early Sunday. The other was in serious condition, Officer David Marander said.
A man and a pregnant woman were both in critical condition at St. Mary Medical Center, said hospital spokesman Steve Sibilsky.
Other details on the victims and their injuries were not available, Sibilsky said.
No arrests were made and the motive for the attack remained unknown.
