’Sharks top ’Cudas: Odam, MacDonald lead BHC squad in loss to Needles during two teams’ season finale
NEEDLES — Hayden Odam, Brittyn Romero, Mary Hessom, Ethan Martin and Madelynn MacDonald led the Bullhead City Barracudas, but they came up short against the Needles Sandsharks at the Needles Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Odam, 7- 8-year-old boys, tallied 43 points to place first and to lead all Barracuda scorers in points during the two clubs’ season finale.
MacDonald, 13-14 girls, came in first place with 42 points; Martin, 11-12 boys, placed first, while compiling 41 points; and Hessom, 11-12 girls, finished first, while scoring 39;
Romero, 6-under girls, tied for first place with Needles’ Tatum Peake with 49 points.
Barracudas head coach Ed Catalfamo said his squad “went into the meet negative 163 points because all of my 6-and-under boys were out of town.”
Despite it all, Catalfamo’s swimmers kept it close.
The Sandsharks topped the Barracudas 511-465 in the boys classication; they also won the girls class 477-415 to take the win by an overall margin of 1,194-1,042.
Swim Neptune-Kingman finished third, as its boys recorded 54 points, while its girls compiled 149 and the team finished with 203 overall.
Swim Neptune’s Savannah B. Taylor, 7-8 girls, tallied 45 points to lead her classification.
Needles’ Lincoln Jones, 9-10 boys, scored 45 points to lead his class; Needles’ Caela Castillo, 15-18 girls, led her class with 45 points; Needles’ Cole Russell, 15-18 boys, led his class with 41; Needles’ Madeline Keller, 9-10 girls, led her class with 40; Swim Neptune’s Beauen Bratley, 13-14 boys, led his class with 36; and Brayden Pletcher, 6-under boys, led his class with 39.
Catalfamo said he was “very proud our our team today.
“We fought hard and swam great; the improvement over the course of the summer in all of the kids was incredible.
“We have a great foundation to build on for next year.”
