Suicide bomber attempts attack in north Mali
BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — A French military spokesman says a suicide bomber has blown himself up in northern Mali near a military camp. No else has been wounded.
Hubert de Quievrecourt, a communications adviser for the French-led mission in Mali, said the attacker detonated his explosive belt late Saturday.
He says the attack took place near a base in Menaka where forces from neighboring Niger are staying.
France led a mission in January to oust radical Islamic militants from power in the towns across northern Mali.
However, the militants have dispersed into the surrounding desert and have attempted a number of attacks on checkpoints and near military bases in recent months.
