Randy Jackson May Get Probation

September 26, 2001

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Prosecutors have recommended that Michael Jackson’s brother, Randy, be placed on probation and fined $21,100 for failing to report that he owned a sport utility vehicle when he filed for bankruptcy protection.

``He committed fraud against the court by not disclosing that he owned a 1995 Chevy Suburban,″ Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office, said Tuesday.

Jackson, who pleaded guilty last month to one count of making a false statement, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 3.

The recommendation, made Monday, still has to be accepted by a judge.

Jackson, 39, filed for bankruptcy protection on Oct. 17, 1996. In a subsequent filing, which required him to disclose all the vehicles he owned, the member of the Jackson 5 listed a 1989 LaForza but not the Chevrolet Suburban, authorities said.
