Woman shot in back while driving in Akron, police say

AKRON, Ohio — A woman was seriously wounded over the weekend when she was shot while driving near the Firestone Park neighborhood, police say.

The 24-year-old woman was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze on Ericsson Avenue near the intersection of Toby Terrace at about 1 a.m. Saturday when the shooting occurred.

Police say shots were fired at the car. The back window of the car was shot out and the unidentified victim was wounded in the back. She was taken to Akron City Hospital in serious condition.

A 25-year-old male passenger in the car was not wounded.

No arrests were made Saturday and investigators were not given a description of a suspect or suspects.
