Gaggioli Wins Langkawi 3rd Stage
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) _ Italian Roberta Gaggioli from the Oilme-Klien team has narrowly won the third stage of the 1998 Le Tour de Langkawi, the national news agency Bernama reported.
Gaggioli, 35, took five hours, 36 minutes and 57 seconds in winning $2,500, Bernama reported Friday.
The third stage, the longest in the race, covers a distance of 132 miles from Grik, a town in the north of peninsular Malaysia, to Kota Bharu, the capital of Kelantan state in the northeast of the country.
``I am very happy to win the race today and hopefully I will do the same in the other stages,″ Gaggioli said, according to Bernama.
Danish rider Soren Petersen finish second in a time of five hours, 36 minutes and 58 seconds, just behind Gaggioli.
About 100 riders from 24 teams are taking part in the tour, which comprises 12 stages over 12 days.
Stage four starts Saturday.
