Sir Cat Wins Aqueduct Feature
NEW YORK (AP) _ Sir Cat moved in front on the far turn and led the rest of the way for a three-length victory in Aqueduct’s Saturday feature, the 38th running of the $115,100, Grade III Knickerbocker Handicap for horses 3-and-older. Tamhid was runnerup in the field of five with Outta My Way Man third.
The Knickerbocker, regularly a turf feature on the NYRA stakes calendar, was switched to the main track in mid-afternoon after an all-day rain made the turf course unsuitable for racing. The result was a spate of late scratches which reduced the field that was originally slated to include 15 horses.
Sir Cat covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:50 on the sloppy main track to earn $69,060 for John R. Murrell. It was the first win in two starts this year for the 4-year-old colt.
Sir Cat returned $3.50, $2.60 and $2.20 as the odds-on favorite. Tamhid paid $4.90 and $3 and Outta My Way Man was $2.90.
