‘Lucky’ the owl, fallen from nest, taken to rehab center

May 5, 2018

KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) — A baby eastern screen owl that fell from its nest twice is getting some recuperative assistance.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports that volunteers took the baby owl to Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation in Barrington after it was discovered on the ground Thursday for a second time.

Dawn Tutt is founder of 3D Wildlife Rescue and Rehab. She says the second fall appeared to injure the bird. It had a scraped leg and was missing feathers.

The Kankakee Fire Department offered its ladder on Wednesday so Tutt could put it back in its nest. The owl’s parents returned that night.

A Daily Journal carrier found it on the ground again the next day.

Neighbors say they hope to see the owl they named “Lucky” return to the area post-rehab.
