Investigation continues into explosive device found beside Havasu mailbox
The Lake Havasu City Police Department is continuing to investigate the origin of an alleged explosive device found beside a Talisman Drive mailbox Saturday morning.
The device was a plastic bottle containing a liquid substance and an ignitable fuse, according to Lake Havasu City Police Lt. Shane Sloma. The device was reported to police at about 11 a.m. Saturday, prompting a response from the department’s bomb squad.
“Once the device was discovered by responding patrol officers, they secured the scene and summoned members of our bomb squad, who are specially trained in safely handling such devices,” Sloma said.
The device, placed at the location by unknown suspects, was detonated at the scene by Havasu bomb technicians.
“The Lake Havasu City Police Department Bomb Squad is trained in several methods for safely handling and neutralizing explosive devices,” Sloma said. “The Lake Havasu City Police Department does not reveal its tactics in performing such methods.”
According to Sloma, evidence was recovered at the scene, and the incident remained under investigation as of Monday morning. Sloma did not say whether any suspects have yet been identified in the case.
