‘Legally Blonde - The Musical’: OMG! Need a lawyer? Elle Woods gets the job done

February 1, 2019

The ultimate Broadway tribute to girl power is headed to Connecticut. “Legally Blonde - The Musical” will be performed at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16.

Based on the movie, “Legally Blonde,” this show follows the transformation of Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 film) as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. (The movie was based on a book by Amanda Brown, about Brown’s experience at Stanford Law School.)

As Elle’s story begins, she appears to have everything tied up in a pretty pink bow. “Her life is turned upside down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting more serious about his life and attend Harvard Law,” the theater said in a news release.

“Determined to get him back, Elle uses her ingenuity and charm to get into Harvard, too.” And she brings her faithful companion — her Chihuahua, Bruiser — with her.

Elle struggles at first; she wants to be taken seriously but still dresses in pink. Should it matter?

With the help of new friends, she quickly realizes the assets she’s already in command of, and sets out to show the world she’s all that, and more. Elle gets her chance to shine while working on a case involving a murder mystery.

This sassy musical shows how a journey of self discovery can be lots of fun, and well worth the effort.

The 2019 national tour of “Legally Blonde - The Musical” is presented by Big League Productions, Inc. and Park Avenue Worldwide Group. For more details: www.BlondeOnTour.com and www.BigLeague.org.
