MEXICO CITY (AP) _ Edwin Westphal scored with one minute remaining in the first half Saturday night to lead Guatemala to a 1-0 victory over Cuba at Havana in the second match of qualifying for the 1990 World Cup.

The teams play again on May 15 in San Marcos, Guatemala, and the country with the most total goals advances to the second round of qualifying against Canada.

Two teams from the North and Central American and Carribean region will qualify for the World Cup finals in Italy, which begin in Rome on June 9, 1990.

The United States received a bye in the first round and plays the winner of matches between Puerto Rico and Jamaica in the second round.
