New Haven man sentenced to 50 years for wife slaying
A man who shot his wife to death in September was ordered today to spend 50 years in prison.
Wiley Brown III, 27, pleaded guilty last month to murder in the death of Courtney Ertel-Brown, 24. He shot Ertel-Brown after an argument Sept. 20 in their New Haven home.
In court this morning for a sentencing hearing, Wiley Brown listened to tearful testimony from several members of his wife’s family. At least two who testified asked Brown why he killed Courtney.
He didn’t respond.
Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced him to serve 50 years of a 55-year sentence. Brown will spend five years on probation when his sentence is complete, and he was ordered to pay more than $16,000 in restitution to Ertel-Brown’s mother.
