SAN DIEGO (AP) _ The San Diego Chargers will place quarterback Stan Humphries on the injured reserve list Friday.

That will officially end Humphries' season. He hasn't played since suffering a concussion Nov. 2 at Cincinnati, his second in 18 days and fourth in 22 months.

General manager Bobby Beathard said the Chargers have little room under the salary cap to immediately sign a player to fill Humphries' roster spot. It's possible the team would eventually sign a player off the practice squad, Beathard said Thursday.

The Chargers (4-9) have lost five straight, starting with the Cincinnati game. They play host to Atlanta (5-8) on Sunday.
