Solid Day on the Mat for Grey Ghosts
Westford Academy won 2 of its 3 wrestling matches on Saturday, earning a 42-36 win over Lowell and a 42-38 win over Tyngsboro.
The Grey Ghosts (7-2) also fell to Shawsheen Tech, 54-30.
Kevin Ma went 3-0 on the day in the heavyweight division, while Stephen Donovan went 3-0 at 126 pounds and Jake Morash was perfect at 195 and 182 pounds.
The Lions swept their three matches on Saturday, defeating Cambridge (36-6), Burlington (48-21) and host Winchester (54-15).
Patrick Hughes (120 pounds) and Evan Goodall (145) enjoyed 3-0 performances. Anthony Hubbbard (120), Zach Reynolds (138), Devin Giannino (152) and Aiden Ahearn (195) each won 2 matches.
Chelmsford improved to 7-2 on the season.
The Gryphons picked up a 45-23 win over Everett, but lost to Pentucket (42-36) and Brookline (56-24).
Sophomore James Githitu had 3 pins at 132 pounds for Greater Lowell (4-4). Senior Torrey Smith had 3 pins at heavyweight.
Nashoba lost all 4 of its matches against Triton (45-24), Saugus (48-33), Bedford (36-27) and Wilmington (42-21).
Kenny Keins, DJ Fraser and Kit Zaker led the Vikings by going 4-0 on the day. Jason Mendonca tallied 3 wins for NT.
Tyngsboro went winless, losing to Shawsheen Tech (56-9), Westford (42-38) and Lowell (36-28).
Matt Tyros (145 pounds) and Mark Thomas (170) went 3-0 for the Tigers. Josh Ducharme (138) and Matt Beauschene (152) each had 2 wins.
The Redmen took care of business against Reading with a 42-40 win, but lost to Windham, N.H. (54-15) and Beverly (42-39).
Jake Garland led the way with 3 pins at 145 pounds for Tewksbury (3-6). Pat Fleming (160 pounds) and Dylan Chandler (285) had 2 pins each.
Adam Donovan (106) and Ryan Day (170) picked up a win for the Redmen as well.
The Red Devils beat Cambridge but lost to Winchester and Chelmsford.
The day was highlighted by freshman Adam Eldeeb getting his first varsity win and sophomore Zack Soda winning an exciting 4-3 match over D1 state champ Evan Kinney of Chelmsford.
Zack Soda and Cam Soda each won three matches and Timmy Vadnais won two.
