Chamber Corner: Glendale gears up for holiday season
Greetings from Glendale!
We hope you all have enjoyed your summer as much as we did! There was so much happening around Glendale and I am so excited to get to share it with you!
The Fourth of July festivities were great as always. I’m telling you, if you have not seen the Glendale fireworks, you are missing a great show! And CCVCA always does an amazing job putting together all of the fun events!
Thank you to everyone that came to the 2nd Annual City-Wide Yard Sale. That was a huge success, and it sure was nice to see so many people come to Glendale. Look for it again next year in August!
The Jewish American Society for Historical Preservation donated a historical marker to the City of Glendale in honor of the Founder of Glendale (Solomon Abraham). We had a nice dedication ceremony where the President of the Jewish American Society flew out from Florida and Solomon Abraham’s Great, Great Granddaughter was here for the celebration and unveiled the marker. We are very proud of it and our Glendale history. It was quite an event!
Now for the future events, Morningstar Coffee House is hosting the second Coffee with a Cop here in Glendale on Oct. 3 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Come down and chat with the officers and have a cup of coffee. The Glendale Rural Fire Department is having an Open House on Saturday Oct. 6 from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Come enjoy BBQ, firehouse tours, climb on trucks, shoot water hoses and dress like a firefighter! Glendale Community Library is having a quilt raffle and they will be announcing the winner at the Special People’s Depot Open House on Oct. 13 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome and come enjoy the great BBQ and see the improvements that have been happening at the Depot.
The Glendale fall sports programs are in full swing. Come on out and watch a game or two. The sports schedules can be picked up at the school offices or at City Hall or find them on one of our Facebook pages.
Speaking of the Glendale Schools, there are so many new programs and reinstated programs that the enrollment has increased by 20 to 30 students for the second straight year. Some of these students are returning from other schools and the others are coming from surrounding communities. They are continuing to add new programs and improve on the instruction to make the schools the best they can be! Other programs include FFA, Robotics, Drama and other exciting opportunities. Please visit their website www.glendale.k12.or.us for more information and upcoming events!
It is also that time of year again when the CCVCA kicks off the fun winter events! It starts off with the Annual Halloween Costume Contest and Parade on Oct. 27. There will also be a pumpkin carving contest. This will take place in the Elementary School Gym and registration is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., judging at 12:30 p.m. and the parade at 1 p.m. Come on out and see the kids. They are so cute and there will be prizes given.
The annual pie auction will be Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Elementary School Gym. There are some amazing cakes of all shapes and sizes that are made and auctioned off. Also, on Dec. 15, there will be the Christmas Parade that brings Santa to town. There will be Cocoa and Cookies at Morningstar Coffee House to welcome Santa to town!
We sure hope to see you around town and enjoy all of our festive events! Glendale sure knows how to ring in the holiday season, and we look forward to you joining the fun!
