North Bennington considers using PFOA soil for field project

July 13, 2018

NORTH BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Officials in the village of North Bennington are considering using soil from a water line project to fill in baseball and soccer fields.

The Bennington Banner reports village trustees discussed the proposal Tuesday. Under the plan, top soil at Welling Field would be removed. Soil from the Route 67A water line installation would be used to even out the field before the removed top soil was returned.

Officials began extending water lines last fall to properties contaminated with the chemical PFOA. The chemical was used at a now-closed plant owned by Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics in North Bennington.

Trustee Mark Boudreau says the state OK’d the project because PFOA levels are the similar in both locations. Boudreau says the soil won’t be harmful in its capacity.
