Man charged with arson after Durham house fire

A man was arrested in Durham on Saturday and charged with arson after a fire broke out at a two-story home on Guess Road.

Crews with the Durham Fire Department responded to the home at 3519 Guess Road around 1:45 a.m. According to officials, a man who lived in the home admitted to starting the fire.

The man, identified as Christopher McKinney, 36, was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree arson and one count of burning personal property. He was placed in the Durham County jail under a $500,000 bond.

Another man was injured in the fire when he jumped out of a window to escape flames, according to officials. He was treated at Duke Hospital and released.

The fire displaced a total of four residents who lived in the home. Officials said the owner of the building is providing accommodations for the tenants.
