Crash sends utility pole into school bus

November 29, 2018

TOWNSHEND, Vt. (AP) — Police say a car crash knocked a utility pole into a bus filled with students in Vermont, trapping them inside.

The crash happened in Townshend Wednesday afternoon. Police said the driver of a pickup truck drifted off the road and into a telephone pole.

The impact caused the pole to fall on top of a bus carrying 13 students from nearby elementary, middle and high schools.

Twelve-year-old Arvel Arama tells the Brattleboro Reformer the bus was shaking a lot and some windows cracked.

No students were injured, but they could not leave the bus because power lines fell on top of the vehicle.

Fire officials were able to evacuate the students and bus driver after crews cut power to the area.
