Visit Lake City SC hosts contest for new community garden
LAKE CITY, S.C. – Visit Lake City SC is awarding $500 to one of the thriving garden plots in the new Railroad Park Community Garden in Lake City.
The garden is across from The Ragsdale Old Building on South Church Street in Lake City.
Seth Kines, executive director of Visit Lake City SC, said a dozen 8-by-4 plots were open in the garden for local businesses to plant in. The contest started May 1 and will run through Labor Day. The best garden created during that time will win the contest.

Foods such as sweet potatoes and tomatoes have been planted in the garden, among other things.
The Railroad Park Community Garden has been actively showing its progress on its Instagram account. According to the account, foods such bell peppers and turkey gizzard beans have also been planted.
Kines said the organization will host the competition on a yearly basis.
