Area prep athletic events postponed

Several area high school athletic events were postponed due to rain the first two days of this week.

La Porte’s girls tennis home match versus Chesterton on Tuesday was postponed. It will be played on Friday at 4:15 p.m. at the LeRoy Courts. The Slicers’ JV & varsity baseball games at Lake Central were called off on Tuesday and have been rescheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. La Porte’s JV & varsity softball home games against Valparaiso on Tuesday were postponed. They’ve been slated for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Kesling Park. The Slicers’ boys golf match at Chesterton on Tuesday was postponed and will be played on Monday at 4:15 p.m. at The Brassie. La Porte’s Unified Track meet on Monday at Valparaiso was canceled. The Slicers’ boys golf match in South Bend on Monday was canceled. Also on Monday, La Porte’s varsity softball game at South Bend Riley was called off. No make-up date has been announced.

All Marquette contests on Tuesday were postponed, including baseball hosting Gary Roosevelt and softball at East Chicago Central. The Blazers’ baseball game versus the Panthers will be made up on Monday at 5 p.m. at the Marquette Athletic Complex.

Tuesday’s varsity and JV baseball games between Michigan City and Chesterton were postponed. No make-up dates have been announced. City’s baseball game against East Chicago Central on Friday has been canceled due to ECC needing to make up a conference game. Michigan City’s girls tennis match at Lake Central from Tuesday has been postponed to May 8 at 4:15 p.m. The Wolves’ varsity and JV softball games at Merrillville have been postponed to Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for a varsity-only contest. City’s boys track meet at Valparaiso was postponed to today at 4:30 p.m.

New Prairie’s boys golf match against Jimtown and Penn that was scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to May 23 with a 4 p.m. tee time. NP’s varsity softball game at Westville has been postponed to May 16 at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars’ girls tennis match against John Glenn from Tuesday has been postponed to May 10 at 4:30 p.m.

Area softball sectional pairings

The softball sectional draw was announced by the IHSAA on Sunday. La Porte faces Penn in a Class 4A Mishawaka Sectional opener, and Michigan City receives a bye and plays Hobart in a Class 4A Chesterton Sectional semifinal. New Prairie gets a bye and meets South Bend Clay in a Class 3A South Bend St. Joseph Sectional semifinal, while LaCrosse plays West Central in a Class A Triton Sectional opener. In the same sectional at Triton, five-time defending sectional-champion South Central receives a bye and faces the host Trojans in a semifinal. In the Class A Westville Sectional, the host Blackhawks meet Morgan Township in an opener, and Marquette gets a bye and plays Washington Township in a Westville Sectional semifinal. Sectionals run May 20‐25 with winners moving into a one‐game regional on May 28.

La Porte Slicer Baseball Summer Camp

The La Porte Slicer baseball coaching staff and players will conduct the annual summer baseball camp June 10-June 13. The purpose of this camp is to teach the fundamentals of the game. It’s anticipated the players will use these skills in their upcoming baseball season. This camp is for students currently in K-5th grades. The camp will be at Schreiber Field at La Porte High School. Times are: K-2nd grade from 10-11:25 a.m.; 3rd-5th grade from 11:30 a.m.-12:55 p.m. Cost of the camp will be $40 per player. Players should wear tennis shoes or cleats, shorts, sweatpants, or baseball pants and a T-shirt. Players should bring baseball gloves. Instructors will be La Porte High School baseball players and coaches. Registration due date is June 4. Players will receive a T-shirt, but they can’t assure T-shirt sizes on late registrations. Slicers athletic schedule changes

La Porte’s girls tennis match at Knox that was postponed on April 10 has been rescheduled for 4:30 today. The boys golf match at Beechwood with Crown Point and Portage will also be played today, weather permitting.

Leadership La Porte County Golf Outing

The Leadership La Porte County 17th Annual Golf Outing will be May 17 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Michigan City Municipal Golf Course. Join them for a day of fun and support Leadership La Porte County by registering your team today. Each team will participate in a shotgun start, best ball scramble event. There will be prizes for the top performers, lunch and many great door prizes. Cost to attend is $300 per team. Purchase a tee sign for $100.

La Porte County Lions Club golf tourney

Six La Porte County Lions Clubs have again organized a golf tournament on May 24. Let’s Golf for Charity will be at Beechwood Golf Course in La Porte with a scramble format. There’s no rain date. Registration and a light lunch begin at 10:30 a.m., chipping and putting contests at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start will be at noon. Dinner, team awards and cash bar begin at 4:30 p.m.

The cost to play is $75 per golfer, $300 per team, which includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, goodie bag, team and individual awards. Deadline for entries is May 10. The limit is 144 golfers, first come, first served. The entry form can be downloaded at: www.rollingprairielions.org, from Beechwood Golf Course, or from a Lion. Payments should be made to Lions La Porte County Golf and mailed to 7128N 300W, Michigan City, IN 46360.

LP selling FB Hall of Fame tickets

La Porte graduate Lambert (Lamby) Lamberson will be among the Region 1 inductees to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Ceremonies will be held during Sunday’s banquet at Avalon in Merrillville. Lamberson, who was named to La Porte’s Hubner Hall of Fame in 2018, is part of a group that includes Bob Bartolomeo (Andrean), Bob Mattix (Portage), Joe Sullivan (Andrean), Randy Tumblin (Portage), George Stroia (Official), Stan Dobosz and Bill Holzbach (East Chicago Roosevelt) and Frank Thomas (East Chicago Washington). Tickets ($40) can be purchased at the La Porte High School Athletics office.
