St. Michael’s, Santa Fe High hire softball coaches
Two softball coaching positions in Santa Fe are off the board now.
St. Michael’s hired Joe Alvarez as its new softball coach, replacing Billy Perdue after he resigned in the fall after two years with the program. Alvarez has been an assistant coach in several sports with the school since 2002, and is the father of Lady Horsemen senior Cia Alvarez, who has been the team’s shortstop the past three seasons.
St. Michael’s struggled the past two years under Perdue as the program went through a youth movement, struggled with roster sizes and did not field a junior varsity. The result was a 10-40 record.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe High took care of its opening by hiring Andy Villa to replace Angelica Quintana after one year and a 3-22 mark. Villa as been an assistant coach under former Demonettes head coaches Sig Rivera and Randy Montoya. Santa Fe Public Schools is also looking for assistant coaches for the program.
