43 of 146 Survive Thai Jet Crash
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) _ A Thai Airways jetliner carrying 146 people crashed in heavy rain and burst into flames today in a swampy area in southern Thailand. Police said scores of people were killed but at least 43 survived.
By midnight, police and rescuers struggling in thigh-high water had managed to pull 26 bodies from the charred wreckage. Two were identified as Westerners. Scores more bodies were still trapped in the plane, many of them burned beyond recognition, police said.
