BELGRADE, Yugoslavia (AP) _ In a dig at NATO forces attacking Yugoslavia, Serbian state television on Tuesday broadcast portions of the movie ``The Great Dictator″ with Charlie Chaplin portraying a Hitler-like character.
Since the NATO attacks began last Wednesday, Serbian state media have repeatedly linked the bombing and missile raids with the Nazi bombing of Belgrade during World War II.
On the streets of Belgrade, President Clinton is likened to Hitler by Serb citizens angry over the bombing campaign.
A scene from the film broadcast just before the nightly television news showed the character discussing which country should pull out its troops first before signing a peace agreement.
On the newscast that followed the film, President Slobodan Milosevic demanded an end to the NATO campaign before he would withdraw forces from Kosovo province. But NATO insists Milosevic’s troops must first withdraw before the bombing campaign ends.
