Highway construction to impact North Carolina beach traffic

July 13, 2018

MAYSVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The weekend trip to a portion of the North Carolina coast is going to be impacted by construction on a major highway.

WITN-TV in Greenville reports the N.C. Department of Transportation says U.S. 17 north of Maysville in Jones County will be closed in both directions from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday. The department says the closure will impact heavy beach traffic that uses N.C. Highway 58 to Emerald Isle and involves an eight-mile detour onto back roads.

NCDOT says the work is necessary to move traffic onto the new U.S. 17 Bypass and to work on the intersection with N.C. 58. The closure will impact heavy beach traffic that uses N.C. 58 to Emerald Isle and involve an eight-mile detour onto back roads.
