Audrey Mae (Brown) Bergstrom, of Dunnellon, Fla., and formerly of Watseka, passed away May 17, 2018, at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, Fla.
She was born April 13, 1926, in Evanston, the daughter of Nelson R. and Florence H. Brown. Her parents preceded her in death, as did a brother, Donald R. Brown; and one infant son, John Barrett Bergstrom.
Audrey married John F. (Jack) Bergstrom Jr. on Jan. 23, 1949, in Skokie. He preceded her in death May 15, 2015.
Surviving are one son, Eric Bergstrom, of Dunnellon, Fla.; one daughter, Sally (Phil) Haberkorn, of Watseka; two grandchildren, Holly Haberkorn, of Gibson City, and Ryne Haberkorn, of Chicago; and one beautiful great-granddaughter, Lydia Mae Runyon, of Gibson City.
After her family, Audrey’s first love was her music. She received a bachelor’s degree in music education from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington and a master’s degree in music education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb. She also was a member of Delta Omicron, a national music sorority, and utilized her training as a private piano teacher for 40 years. She also served as a church organist and choir director, most recently at the United Methodist Church in Milford.
In Dunnellon, Fla., she was best known as the accompanist for the Dunnellon Chorale.
Audrey was a member of the American Guild of Organists, the Illinois Music Teachers Association and the Fellowship of United Methodist Musicians until her retirement in 1991.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Watseka. An additional memorial service took place in Florida in June.
