GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug 30, 2018--Students and teachers at Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA) will start the 2018-2019 school year on September 4, simply by turning on their computers. A full-time, online public charter school authorized by Grand Valley State University, MVCA provides a tuition-free public education for students in grades K-12 across the state.

“MVCA's motto is ‘Login, Learn, Lead, Leave a Legacy,’” said Head of School Randy Rodriguez. “We are excited to serve our students with the power of an online platform driven by our dedicated staff, and we are committed to developing a positive learning environment to support each student’s success.”

Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by Michigan-licensed teachers, MVCA provides each student with a personalized learning experience. Students take a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, language arts and history, as well as electives, honors and Advanced Placement® courses in high school.

Through the school's partnership with the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP), students in grades 3-12 can choose from a variety of STEM-related workshops offered at Lawrenceville Technological University in Southfield. Participating students engage in hands-on activities exploring such topics as physics, energy and biology.

MVCA students can also take advantage of K12’s new partnership with STEM Premier, a collaborative, relationship-building platform connecting students with career pathways, jobs, colleges, trade schools and scholarship opportunities. Students create online portfolios highlighting career interests, academic achievements, extracurricular activities and certifications. The platform allows STEM Premier member organizations to recruit for skilled talent.

Throughout the year, MVCA builds a sense of community through in-person field trips, community service opportunities and social outings, and celebrates graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Virtual clubs and organizations also allow students to further explore shared interests together in the online setting.

MVCA is still accepting enrollment applications for limited openings for the 2018-2019 school year. Families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school. To learn more about enrollment and for a schedule of upcoming events visit mvca.k12.com or download the K12 enrollment app for iOS and Android devices.
